Süskind

Walter Süskind was appointed by the Jewish Council to coordinate matters at the Hollandsche Schouwburg (The Dutch Theatre House) to where Jews were ordered to report. Süskind was a powerful personality and was familiar with German culture. He succeeded in gaining the trust of the German commander Aus der Fünten. Simultaneously, he also set up a childcare centre across the street to rescue many Jewish children. This meant secretly destroying the records of these children.

Walter Süskind was deported on the last transport out of Westerbork (3 September 1944). He died during a death march in Central Europe.
