Seder Plate

Celebrating Pesach commemorates the Exodus of the Jews from Egypt. On the first evening of the seder meal, the seder plate is placed in the middle of the table. The youngest person at the table asks the question ‘what is the difference between this evening and all other evenings?' and with that a long evening of stories, prayers, songs, discussions, and food begins. The seder plate is laid with different types of food items that have symbolic meanings. A bitter herb (horseradish) symbolises slavery, parsley symbolises spring, and salt water symbolises the tears of sadness.
