Referat IV B 4

A sub-department of the Sicherheitsdienst (Security Service) in charge of deporting Jews to concentration camps. The head of this unit was called the Judenreferent (Advisor on Jewish Affairs), a Nazi intelligence officer who was considered to be an ‘expert in Jewish matters' and was directly appointed by Himmler and Eichmann (Referat IV B 4) to supervise the deportations from the occupied countries. This gave Berlin a direct influence on the anti-Jewish policies in every occupied country.

Adolf Eichmann (IV B 4) was the designer of the deportation plan and was also the head of the Berlin office. The Dutch office of the same name was the department of the Sicherheitspolizei (Secret Police) located in The Hague under the management of SS officer Willi Zöpf. In Amsterdam the Zentralstelle für jüdische Auswanderung (Central Office for Jewish Emigration) was established to assist in carrying out this plan.
