Nederlands Exposition in Auschwitz Dutch people in Auschwitz

Manfred Schwarz, 1923

Suddenly I was standing face to face with Carry van Leeven. Apparently she was happy to see me and I noticed that I was blushing. She started to work in the clothing manufacture workshop, where I was a sewing machine mechanic. So we saw each other daily and fell in love. [...] Though we made a premature decision that we would marry as soon as we could do so in a free world, and not earlier in Westerbork, the way many of our friends did.
